The Bird Cage Chronicles

Recently, I have been wanting to upgrade my bird's cage. There is nothing wrong with their current one, I just want to give them a bit more space. Their current cage was not originally intended to be split into two cages, which is what I did to accommodate my four birds. They have plenty of space as recommended by our vet and they get plenty of out-of-cage time. Though while on TikTok I saw a fellow bird owner showing a birdcage they had just purchased. Let me tell you I was blown away by both the cage and the price of said cage. It was absolutely huge and had two separate cages built into one. Each of the cages is bigger than the one I currently have and would give my birds a lot more room to fly around. The best part was that it was only three hundred dollars! My current cage was only a hundred and twenty-six dollars and it was a good size for that price. For what I would be getting for less than two hundred more was an absolute steal. Unfortunately by the time I was ready to buy it had sold out and I was left wondering what to do. Other comparable cages were hundreds more expensive and somehow smaller. Which does not make sense if you ask me. For a while, I was considering using those small pet playpen cages that you can completely customize to macgyver a customer cage for my birds. Though I was worried that it would not be sturdy enough and might be hard to clean. After considering my options and watching a lot of youtube videos I have decided to build my own cage completely from scratch. That way not only can I ensure its sturdiness but I can completely customize it to my heart's desire. On top of that, after planning out what I will need, I have discovered that it will be cheaper than purchasing it. It will also be bigger. I am excited to get started, I am just waiting to get the wood when it gets a bit warmer. I am also excited to give my old cage to my brother's cockatiel. We are gonna remove the divider and turn it into one big cage for her. I think she will really like it. I have included a picture of my birds, Darwin on the right and Basil on the left, below.
